Nestsporen is a Dutch-language term used in ecology and mycology to describe fungal or other spores that are found in or emitted from nesting materials. The term is descriptive rather than taxonomic; it refers to spores associated with nests such as those built by birds, mammals, or social insects, and to the fungi that colonize such substrates.

Nest environments provide substrates rich in organic matter, moisture, and stable temperatures, creating favorable conditions for diverse spore-forming organisms. Spore production can occur in molds that colonize nest lining, debris, feathers, or dung, as well as in specialized nest fungi whose fruiting bodies resemble tiny nests and release spore-laden structures into the surrounding material and air.

In the life cycle of nestsporen-bearing organisms, spores disperse by wind, moving nest materials, or activity of nest inhabitants. Some spores can survive desiccation and brief temperature changes, enabling persistence between nesting seasons. Germination and growth depend on moisture and nutrients available in the nest matrix.

From a human perspective, nest spores can affect nest integrity and, in some cases, pose health considerations for people handling nests, due to allergenic or pathogenic potential of certain molds. They are also of interest in ecological studies of decomposition, nutrient cycling, and nest microbiomes.
