Nefrogenikus is a medical adjective used to describe diseases, processes, or conditions that originate in or primarily affect the kidney. The term derives from Greek roots meaning kidney (nephro) and producing or originating (genic). It is typically used to distinguish renal-origin disorders from diseases that primarily involve other organs but have kidney involvement.

Common usage includes nephrogenic conditions such as nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, where the kidney fails to respond to the hormone vasopressin, leading to excessive urination and thirst. Nefrogenikus disorders can be genetic, due to mutations in genes like AVPR2 or AQP2, or acquired, related to medications or other renal insults. Another cited example is nephrogenic systemic fibrosis, a rare condition occurring in people with severe kidney impairment after exposure to certain gadolinium-based contrast agents.

In conditions like nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, diagnostic workups may include tests to distinguish renal unresponsiveness from central causes, such as vasopressin responsiveness tests.
