nedstigende

Nedstigende is a Norwegian adjective meaning descending or decreasing, formed from ned- meaning down and stige meaning rise. In Bokmål it is written nedstigende, while in Nynorsk the form is nedstigande. The term is used to describe something that moves downward or becomes smaller as another variable changes.

In mathematics and related fields, nedstigende describes a monotone decreasing behavior. A function f is nedstigende on an interval if x1 ≤ x2 implies f(x1) ≥ f(x2). If the inequality is strict, the function is described as strengt nedstigende (strictly decreasing): x1 < x2 implies f(x1) > f(x2).
