Natriumsulfaadi, also known as sodium sulfate, is the sodium salt of sulfuric acid with the chemical formula Na2SO4. It is a white crystalline solid that is highly soluble in water. In its anhydrous form, it is known as thenardite, and in its decahydrate form, it is known as Glauber's salt or sal mirabilis.

Natriumsulfaadi occurs naturally in various mineral forms and is also a byproduct of several industrial processes. Historically, it was obtained from the evaporation of mineral springs, particularly those rich in sulfates. Today, it is primarily extracted from deposits like the sulfate minerals found in arid regions or produced synthetically.

Industrially, natriumsulfaadi has a wide range of applications. It is a significant component in the production of detergents, where it acts as a filler and processing aid. In the pulp and paper industry, it is used in the Kraft process for manufacturing paper from wood pulp. It also finds use in the glass manufacturing industry, acting as a fining agent to remove small bubbles from molten glass. Other applications include its use in textiles for dyeing, in chemical manufacturing as a source of sodium and sulfate ions, and in some medicinal preparations as a laxative.

While generally considered safe, concentrated solutions of natriumsulfaadi can be irritating to skin and eyes. Ingestion of large quantities may lead to gastrointestinal distress.
