Napfogyatkozásokat refers to solar eclipses in Hungarian. A solar eclipse is a celestial event that occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth, and the Moon fully or partially blocks ("occults") the Sun. This can only happen during a new moon when the Sun and the Moon are in conjunction as seen from Earth. There are different types of solar eclipses: total, partial, and annular.

A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon's apparent diameter is large enough to block the Sun's entire disk. During a total eclipse, the Sun's corona, a faint outer atmosphere, becomes visible. The path of totality, where the total eclipse is visible, is a relatively narrow strip on Earth's surface.

A partial solar eclipse happens when the Sun is only partly blocked by the Moon. This occurs when the Sun, Moon, and Earth are not perfectly aligned. From within the penumbra of the Moon's shadow, observers see only a portion of the Sun obscured.

An annular solar eclipse occurs when the Moon is farther from the Earth than usual, making its apparent diameter smaller than the Sun's. In this case, the Moon appears as a dark disk against a bright solar disk, creating a ring of fire effect.

Solar eclipses are observable phenomena that have fascinated humanity for millennia, often inspiring myths and scientific inquiry. It is important to never look directly at the Sun during any part of a solar eclipse without proper eye protection, such as eclipse glasses or solar viewers, to prevent serious eye damage.
