Mõõtemoonutused, also known as measurement units or units of measure, refer to standardized quantities used to express physical measurements. These units provide a common language for describing and comparing sizes, weights, lengths, volumes, and other measurable attributes. In Estonia and other countries following the metric system, the International System of Units (SI) is predominantly used, though some traditional units persist in specific contexts.

The SI system is based on seven fundamental units: the meter for length, kilogram for mass, second for time, ampere for electric current, kelvin for thermodynamic temperature, mole for amount of substance, and candela for luminous intensity. Derived units, such as the square meter for area or the cubic meter for volume, are also widely employed. Estonia officially adopted the metric system in the late 19th century, aligning with broader European standards.

In addition to SI units, Estonia retains some traditional or historical measurement units, particularly in agricultural or cultural contexts. For example, the *jooks* (a unit of length roughly equivalent to 1.85 meters) and the *kuld* (a unit of area, approximately 1,000 square meters) were historically used in land measurement. While these units are no longer part of official standards, they may still appear in older documents or regional traditions.

Standardization of measurement units ensures consistency in trade, science, engineering, and daily life. International agreements, such as those governed by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM), help maintain uniformity across borders. Estonia adheres to these global standards while occasionally accommodating local practices where necessary. Accurate and precise measurement remains essential for technological advancement, economic activity, and public safety.
