Quicklime is a highly reactive substance and is then typically slaked by adding water. This exothermic reaction produces calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2), commonly known as slaked lime or hydrated lime. Slaked lime is less reactive than quicklime and is more commonly used in applications like construction, agriculture, and water treatment.
