Määränpääjoukkoa is a Finnish term used in mathematics, particularly in the context of functions and mappings. It translates to "target set" or "codomain" in English. The määränpääjoukkoa is the set of all possible output values that a function can produce.

In a function f that maps elements from a set A to a set B, A is called the lähtiöjoukko (domain), and B is called the määränpääjoukkoa. This means that for every element x in A, the function f assigns an element f(x) which must belong to the set B. The määränpääjoukkoa does not necessarily contain all the elements that could theoretically be in B; it only contains the actual images of the elements in the domain.

The actual set of output values achieved by the function is called the kuvajoukko (image set) or arvojoukko (range). The kuvajoukko is always a subset of the määränpääjoukkoa. Understanding the distinction between the määränpääjoukkoa and the kuvajoukkoa is crucial for analyzing the properties of functions, such as surjectivity (onto-ness). A function is surjective if its kuvajoukko is equal to its määränpääjoukkoa.
