Morálkifejlesztés, or moral development, refers to the progressive process by which individuals acquire, refine, and internalize moral values, principles, and decision-making skills. A landmark contribution to the field is Lawrence Kohlberg’s stage theory, which outlines six stages grouped into three levels: pre-conventional, conventional, and post-conventional. In the pre-conventional level, moral judgments are shaped by avoidance of punishment and pursuit of personal rewards. The conventional level is defined by adherence to social norms and laws, while the post-conventional level involves principled reasoning that transcends specific rules. Empirical research suggests that moral development is influenced by family dynamics, education, peer interactions, and broader cultural contexts. Neuroscientific studies point to involvement of the prefrontal cortex and the temporoparietal junction in moral judgment.
