monotónních

Monotónních is the Czech form related to the adjective monotónní, used to describe things that exhibit little or no variation in pitch, tone, or order. In Czech-language scientific and descriptive writing, the term appears in contexts ranging from mathematics to music, often in phrases like monotónních tónů (monotone tones) or monotónních projevů (monotone expressions).

In mathematics, monotone refers to a relation or function that preserves the order of elements. A function f is monotone increasing if x ≤ y implies f(x) ≤ f(y); it is monotone decreasing if x ≤ y implies f(x) ≥ f(y). When the inequalities are strict, the function is strictly monotone. Monotone sequences follow a similar idea: a sequence (a_n) is monotone increasing if a_{n+1} ≥ a_n, and monotone decreasing if a_{n+1} ≤ a_n. On real intervals, monotone functions may have discontinuities, but such discontinuities are limited: a monotone function has left and right limits at every point and, on a finite interval, has at most countably many discontinuities. Monotone sequences that are bounded converge to a finite limit.

In music and acoustics, monotone or monotónní usage describes a lack of pitch variation, such as a single-tone or a drone, or a melody with little contour. Monotone passages can convey a solemn or insistent character and are used for dramatic or ceremonial effect in various musical traditions.
