Monokarboksylsyrer, also known as carboxylic acids with a single carboxyl group, are organic compounds characterized by the presence of a carboxyl functional group (COOH). This functional group consists of a carbonyl group (C=O) bonded to a hydroxyl group (OH). The general formula for a monocarboxylic acid is R-COOH, where R represents an alkyl or aryl group, or simply a hydrogen atom in the case of formic acid.
