Momper is a Flemish surname most notably associated with a family of landscape painters active in the late 16th and early 17th centuries, centered in Antwerp. The best-known bearer is Joos de Momper (c. 1564–1635), a leading Flemish landscape painter whose works helped define the development of the Flemish landscape school. He produced expansive scenes featuring rolling hills, distant mountains, and atmospheric light, combining Northern realism with Italianate elements that reflected contacts across Europe. Joos de Momper ran a workshop that produced numerous landscapes, which circulated widely through drawings and collaboration with other painters of the Brueghel circle.
