Molecular physics is a branch of physics that studies macroscopic and microscopic physical properties of matter, especially, but not exclusively, the properties of the gaseous phase of matter in terms of the physics of one or more atoms. It bridges the gap between atomic physics and condensed matter physics. The term "molecular" can also be used more broadly to describe anything that involves a very small scale, often at the individual particle or atomic level. For example, molecular gastronomy explores the physical and chemical transformations of ingredients that occur during cooking.
