They are often hand-ground and polished to achieve fine edges. Most are designed to withstand steam autoclave sterilization, though some are intended for single-use. Proper maintenance includes keeping blades clean, avoiding contact with hard surfaces to prevent dulling, and following manufacturer guidance for sterilization and storage.
