miðar

Miðar is the Icelandic term for a ticket or pass that confirms entitlement to a service, event, or transportation. The plural form miðar is used when referring to more than one such document. In everyday usage, miðar are issued for concerts, sports events, theaters, museums, public transport, and other activities that require proof of purchase or permission to enter.

Miðar come in several forms. Traditional paper tickets are printed with a unique identifier, and a barcode or QR code may be included; entry is typically validated at the gate by staff or a scanner. Electronic tickets, mobile tickets, and season passes are increasingly common, often stored in a digital wallet or emailed as a barcode.

Acquisition and handling: Tickets are typically sold by event organizers, venues, travel operators, or online ticket platforms, and sometimes at box offices or authorized retailers. Upon purchase, the ticket serves as proof of entitlement; entry is granted after validation. Some events have restrictions on resale or require refunds or exchanges under specific conditions.
