Mezooiselta is a term that translates from Finnish as "Mesozoic." The Mesozoic Era is a geological period that spans from approximately 252 to 66 million years ago. It is often referred to as the "Age of Reptiles" due to the dominance of dinosaurs during this time. The Mesozoic Era is divided into three distinct periods: the Triassic, the Jurassic, and the Cretaceous.

The Triassic Period, the earliest part of the Mesozoic, began after the Permian-Triassic extinction event, one of the most severe extinction events in Earth's history. Life began to recover and diversify. Early dinosaurs, mammals, and pterosaurs appeared during this period. The supercontinent Pangaea was largely intact.

The Jurassic Period followed the Triassic and is perhaps the most famous for its large, long-necked sauropod dinosaurs like Brachiosaurus and Diplodocus. The first birds, such as Archaeopteryx, evolved during the Jurassic, and Pterosaurs continued to diversify. Pangaea began to break apart.

The Cretaceous Period, the final period of the Mesozoic, saw the rise of many new dinosaur groups, including Tyrannosaurus rex and Triceratops. Flowering plants (angiosperms) first appeared and began to spread, significantly altering terrestrial ecosystems. The period ended with another mass extinction event, the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction, which wiped out the non-avian dinosaurs and many other species. This extinction paved the way for the rise of mammals in the subsequent Cenozoic Era.
