Meleghengerlés, also known as hot rolling, is a metalworking process where metal is shaped above its recrystallization temperature. This elevated temperature makes the metal more malleable, allowing it to be deformed with less force and to a greater extent than at lower temperatures.

The process typically begins with a large metal slab, known as a bloom or a billet. This slab is heated in a furnace to the appropriate rolling temperature, which varies depending on the specific metal being processed. Once heated, the metal is passed through a series of rollers. These rollers exert immense pressure, reducing the thickness of the metal and increasing its length. Multiple passes through progressively smaller rollers may be required to achieve the desired final dimensions.

After the rolling process is complete, the metal is allowed to cool. This cooling stage is crucial as it affects the microstructure and properties of the final product. Hot rolled products often have a scaly surface due to oxidation at high temperatures and tend to have less precise dimensional tolerances compared to cold-rolled products.
