Megakariotütopoeesis refers to the complex process by which megakaryocytes are generated. Megakaryocytes are large, multinucleated cells found in the bone marrow, responsible for producing platelets, which are essential for blood clotting. This developmental pathway is a crucial aspect of hematopoiesis, the formation of all blood cellular components.

The process begins with a multipotent hematopoietic stem cell. Under the influence of specific growth factors and cytokines, such as thrombopoietin (TPO), these stem cells differentiate into a lineage committed progenitor. This progenitor cell then undergoes a series of proliferation and maturation steps.
