Masseteriska refers to the masseter muscle, one of the masticatory muscles responsible for chewing. It is a thick, rectangular muscle located in the side of the face. The masseter originates from the zygomatic arch, the bony ridge of the cheekbone, and inserts onto the angle and ramus of the mandible, the lower jawbone. Its primary action is to elevate the mandible, closing the jaw and enabling forceful biting and grinding of food.
