malfermi

Malfermi is a constructed language, or conlang, created by the Esperantist group La Verda Stelo. It was developed in the 1970s and 1980s with the goal of being a simplified and more logical successor to Esperanto. The name "malfermi" itself means "to open" in Esperanto, suggesting a desire for a more accessible language.

The vocabulary of Malfermi is largely derived from Romance languages, similar to Esperanto, but with a more regularized phonology and morphology. A key feature of Malfermi is its system of affixes, designed to be highly predictable and to avoid the ambiguities that some critics have found in Esperanto. The grammar aims for a streamlined approach, reducing the number of irregularities and exceptions.

While Malfermi shares some of the philosophical underpinnings of international auxiliary languages, such as promoting communication and understanding between people of different linguistic backgrounds, it has not achieved the widespread adoption of Esperanto. Its development and community are smaller, and its primary influence has been within certain circles of Esperanto enthusiasts interested in linguistic experimentation.
