Maisemanmuodostus, known in English as landscape formation or geomorphology, is the scientific study of landforms and the processes that shape them. It investigates the origin, evolution, and spatial distribution of surface features on Earth and other celestial bodies. This field examines both the creation of new landforms and the modification of existing ones.

Key processes involved in maisemanmuodostus include tectonic activity, such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, which can uplift mountains, create rift valleys, and form volcanic cones. Erosional forces, primarily water, wind, and ice, play a significant role in wearing down landforms.
