Magnetiseerituse is a Finnish term that translates to "magnetization" in English. It refers to the process by which a material becomes a magnet or develops magnetic properties. This can occur through several mechanisms.

One primary way magnetization happens is by exposing a ferromagnetic material, such as iron, nickel, or cobalt, to an external magnetic field. Within these materials, the magnetic domains, which are small regions where the magnetic moments of atoms are aligned, can be reoriented by the external field. When a significant portion of these domains align in the same direction, the material as a whole exhibits a net magnetic moment, becoming magnetized.

Another method is through the process of induction. If a magnetic material is placed in a magnetic field, it will become magnetized even if it is not permanently magnetic. This induced magnetization typically disappears when the external field is removed, although the material may retain some residual magnetism.

Magnetization can also be achieved through mechanical processes like hammering or by heating and then cooling a material in the presence of a magnetic field. Furthermore, electric currents can create magnetic fields, and materials placed within these fields can become magnetized.
