Lämpöpatteri is the Finnish term for a radiator, a common heating device used in buildings. These devices transfer heat from a heating medium, typically hot water, to the surrounding air, thereby warming the room. The primary function of a lämpöpatteri is to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature during colder months.

Lämpöpatterit are typically made of metal, most commonly cast iron, steel, or aluminum. They are designed with a large surface area to maximize heat radiation and convection. Hot water circulates through internal channels within the radiator, heating the metal casing. This heat is then released into the room through a combination of radiation and convection. Radiation involves the direct emission of heat waves, while convection occurs as the warm air near the radiator rises, drawing cooler air in to be heated.

The water circulating in a lämpöpatteri is usually heated by a central heating system, such as a boiler or a heat pump. This system distributes the heated water through pipes to each radiator in the building. The temperature of the water, and therefore the heat output of the lämpöpatteri, can often be regulated by a thermostatic valve on the radiator itself. This allows occupants to adjust the temperature in individual rooms according to their needs and preferences.
