A sender emits the light, and a receiver detects its presence or absence, indicating an object's interruption. Ultrasonic proximity sensors emit sound waves and measure the time it takes for the waves to reflect off an object and return to the sensor. This time-of-flight measurement allows for distance determination and object detection.
