Lysfargetemperaturen, often referred to as color temperature, is a characteristic of visible light. It describes the spectral distribution of light emitted by a theoretical black body radiator as it is heated. The unit of measurement for color temperature is Kelvin (K). A lower Kelvin value indicates a warmer, more reddish light, while a higher Kelvin value indicates a cooler, more bluish light.

For instance, candlelight has a very low color temperature, around 1900 K, producing a warm, yellowish-orange glow. The light from a typical incandescent bulb is around 2700 K, which is also considered warm. As the temperature increases, the light appears whiter. Daylight at noon is around 5500 K to 6500 K, appearing as a neutral white. In overcast conditions, daylight can have an even higher color temperature, appearing bluer.

It affects the mood and perception of an environment. For example, warm color temperatures are often preferred for creating a cozy and relaxing atmosphere, while cooler color temperatures are better suited for tasks requiring alertness and focus.
