Lynceus is a figure from Greek mythology best known as one of the Argonauts, the band of heroes who accompanied Jason on the voyage to obtain the Golden Fleece. His name, derived from the Greek for “lynx-eyed,” is a reference to his famously keen sight.

Traditionally Lynceus is celebrated for his exceptional eyesight, which in various tellings is described as far-reaching, piercing, or even capable of seeing through objects. The emphasis on his vision made him a symbolic exemplar of acute perception in ancient and later literature. Genealogical details about his parentage and offspring vary across sources; in some traditions he is said to have married Laodice, a daughter of Priam, with their son Abas associated with the Argive line.
