Lukukehysmutaatioita, also known as reading frame mutations or frameshift mutations, are genetic alterations that occur in a DNA sequence. These mutations arise from insertions or deletions of nucleotides within a gene. Crucially, these insertions or deletions are not in multiples of three. Since the genetic code is read in codons, which are triplets of nucleotides, adding or removing a number of nucleotides that is not divisible by three disrupts the normal reading frame of the gene.
