It is less volatile than avgas, which contributes to its safety. Two main categories of jet fuel exist: Jet A and Jet A-1. Jet A is primarily used in the United States, while Jet A-1 is more common internationally and has a lower freezing point, making it suitable for higher altitudes and colder climates. Military aircraft often use a specialized version called JP-8.
