luasnya

Luasnya is an Indonesian term formed from the root luas, meaning area, extent, or breadth, plus the enclitic pronoun suffix -nya. The combination often functionally acts as a noun phrase meaning “its extent” or “its size,” or as a pronoun referring to the extent of something already known from context.

Grammatical use and constructions. Luasnya can appear as the subject of a sentence or as the predicate element that states a measured size. Examples include: “Luasnya wilayah itu mencapai 120 hektar” (The extent of that region reaches 120 hectares) and “Luasnya kota itu sangat besar” (The size of that city is very large). In many cases, Indonesian speakers also say “luasan wilayah itu” to refer to the same idea, which is a related but slightly more formal noun meaning “the area of the region.”

Distinctions and related terms. Luasnya differs from luas as a plain adjective when used in noun phrases like “luas wilayah” or “luas lahan,” where luas is the descriptive word and wilayah or lahan is the noun. Luasan, another related noun, more explicitly denotes the concept of expanse or area in a technical or formal sense. The suffix -nya can also function to topicalize or to indicate possession, depending on sentence structure and context.

Usage notes. Luasnya is common in descriptive or quantitative discourse, such as geography, planning, or reporting measurements.
