Loodusahelik is an Estonian term that translates to "food chain" in English. It describes the linear sequence of organisms where nutrients and energy are transferred from one organism to another as one eats another. In a typical loodusahelik, energy originates from producers, usually photosynthetic organisms like plants. These producers are then consumed by primary consumers, which are herbivores. Primary consumers are in turn eaten by secondary consumers, which can be carnivores or omnivores. This process continues with tertiary consumers and potentially higher trophic levels, with each level feeding on the one below it.
