Lipomit is a non-cancerous tumor composed of fat cells, also known as a lipoma. These growths are typically found just beneath the skin's surface and are among the most common types of soft tissue tumors. Lipomas are generally soft to the touch, movable, and painless, though they can occasionally cause discomfort if they press on a nerve. They can vary in size from very small to several centimeters in diameter. The exact cause of lipoma formation is not fully understood, but genetics may play a role, as they can sometimes run in families. They are more common in adults between the ages of 40 and 60.

While lipomas are benign and do not spread to other parts of the body, they can be removed surgically if they are causing pain, are cosmetically bothersome, or if there is any diagnostic uncertainty. The surgical excision is usually a straightforward procedure with a good recovery rate. In some cases, liposuction may be used for removal, particularly for larger lipomas. Recurrence after complete removal is rare. Diagnosis is typically made through a physical examination, and imaging techniques like ultrasound or MRI may be used if the diagnosis is unclear or if the lipoma is unusually large or located in a deep tissue.
