Linssikomponentti, often translated as lens component or lens element, refers to an individual piece of shaped glass or other transparent material that forms part of a larger optical system, such as a camera lens, telescope, or microscope. These components are precisely ground and polished to specific curvatures and thicknesses to control the path of light.

The primary function of a linssikomponentti is to refract, or bend, light. By combining multiple lens components with different shapes and refractive indices, optical designers can correct for various aberrations, such as chromatic aberration (color fringing) and spherical aberration (blurring due to imperfect focus).
