Linfundibolo is a nonstandard or misspelled form often related to the Italian term infundibolo, which denotes a funnel-shaped anatomical structure. The standard Italian word infundibolo (plural infundiboli) is used across several contexts in human anatomy to describe funnel-like passages or regions.

The most commonly referenced infundibula are in the hypothalamic-pituitary axis and in the female reproductive system. The infundibulum of the hypothalamic-pituitary axis is the slender stalk that connects the hypothalamus to the pituitary gland. It contains neural and vascular elements that facilitate the transport of hypothalamic releasing and inhibiting hormones to regulate pituitary function.

The infundibulum of the uterine tube, or fallopian tube, is the funnel-shaped opening near the ovary, equipped with fimbriae that help capture the ovulated oocyte and channel it into the tube for potential fertilization.

Beyond these well-known examples, the term is used descriptively in anatomy for other funnel-shaped structures in various organs. The root infundibulum derives from Latin infundibulum, meaning “funnel,” reflecting the shape common to these structures.
