Lines, or lijnen in Dutch, denote a concept used across disciplines. In mathematics, a lijn is a straight one-dimensional figure extending without end in both directions. It can be defined by equations such as y = mx + b in the plane, and by ax + by + c = 0 more generally. Lines can intersect or be parallel; the angle of intersection is measured between lines.

In writing and typography, a line is a row of printed or written text; line spacing (leading) is the vertical distance between baselines. Alignment and margins influence readability.

In transport networks, lijnen are routes for trains, buses, or ships; the network is described by lines and stations. In manufacturing, productielijnen organize work steps along which a product moves.

In maps and design, lines indicate borders, rivers, contours, or edges. In art and drawing, lines shape form and expression. In everyday use, lines have width in practice, but an ideal line is considered dimensionless.
