Leukeemiaid is not a standard medical term in Dutch. In medical literature the disease is leukemie (leukemia). The term leukeimiaid may appear as a misspelling or informal umbrella for leukemia-related conditions. This article uses the established language of leukemias.

Leukemia refers to cancers of blood and bone marrow characterized by the clonal proliferation of abnormal white blood cells, which impairs normal hematopoiesis and immune function. Leukemias are classified by pace of progression (acute vs chronic) and by lineage (lymphoid vs myeloid): ALL, AML, CLL, CML. Acute leukemias progress rapidly and require urgent treatment; chronic leukemias progress more slowly.

Common symptoms: fatigue, pallor, infections, fever, easy bruising, bleeding, bone pain, enlarged liver or spleen. Diagnosis: complete blood count, peripheral smear, bone marrow biopsy, flow cytometry, cytogenetics, molecular tests.

Treatment depends on subtype and patient factors; options include chemotherapy, targeted therapy (eg, BCR-ABL inhibitors in CML), immunotherapy, and stem cell transplantation in selected cases. Supportive care is important.

Prognosis varies by subtype and patient age; pediatric leukemias often have favorable outcomes, while risk in adults is higher. Genetic features influence prognosis and treatment choices.
