Lentopalloissa, which translates to "beach volleyball" in English, is a variant of volleyball played on sand courts. The game is a popular recreational and competitive sport, variations of which can be found in many countries with beach volleyball cultures.

The standard game is played with two teams, each consisting of two players, on a rectangular court with a sand surface. The objective is to hit the ball over the net and make it land in the opponent's court while preventing the opponent from doing the same. Points are scored when a team fails to return the ball to the other side of the court.

Lentopalloissa has a unique set of rules that differentiate it from indoor volleyball. The most notable rule is that only two players are allowed on each side of the court, a requirement that encourages fast and dynamic movements as well as close collaboration between the players.

Games are usually played best two out of three sets. A set continues until one team reaches 25 points with at least a two-point advantage. Another key rule is that only three consecutive touches by one team are allowed before the ball must be hit by the opposing team.

Competition has grown significantly in recent years, with professional leagues and international tournaments springing up across the globe. Despite its popularity, the rules governing the sport remain standardized by the FIVB and the relevant National Associations, in an effort to maintain consistency across competitions.
