leksikos
Leksikos is the transliteration of the Greek adjective λεξικός, which means lexical or related to the vocabulary of a language. The corresponding noun λεξικό refers to a dictionary or lexicon. The term derives from the Greek root λεξ-, connected to words, and the adjectival suffix -ικός, used to form words meaning pertaining to. In Greek scholarly usage, leksikos describes items, concepts, or phenomena tied to the lexicon—such as lexical entries, lexical relations, or lexical semantics—and it contrasts with terms dealing with grammar or phonology. In English-language linguistics, the closest equivalents are lexical or lexicon, and Greek authors often render leksikos concepts with those English terms while preserving Greek terminology in explanations. When used as a transliterated label in titles or cross-linguistic discussions, leksikos signals a direct link to Greek lexical studies, but it is not by itself a distinct theory. The term functions primarily as a linguistic label for vocabulary-related aspects of language rather than a stand-alone concept, unless instantiated as a proper name in a specific project or publication.
