Lastbrunn is a municipality situated in the district of Grieskirchen in Upper Austria. The community occupies a gently rolling landscape at an elevation of around 440 meters above sea level and is surrounded by a mixture of agricultural land and forested hills. The village itself lies along the tracks of the Bischofshofen–Krems Railway, which provides convenient access to the regional capital, Linz, located about 30 kilometres to the east.

The earliest documentary mention of Lastbrunn dates back to the 12th century, when it was referred to as “Lastbranun”. Over the centuries the settlement grew around a small castle that once belonged to a local noble family. The stone keep survived the turmoil of the Thirty‑Year’s War and was later reconstructed into a modest manor house. Today the building hosts a small museum dedicated to the local history, showcasing artifacts from agrarian life and the region’s involvement in the Napoleonic wars.

Lastbrunn’s economy is traditionally rooted in agriculture, with dairy farming and crop cultivation dominating the land use. In recent decades the municipality has attracted small‑scale artisanal enterprises, notably a craft brewery that produces a range of lagers and wheat beers under the brand “Lastbrunn”. Tourism has also become a growing sector, with visitors drawn to the area’s scenic hiking trails, the historic St. Michael church, and annual cultural festivals celebrating local folklore.

The community’s demographic profile is typical of rural Upper Austrian towns, with a population of just under 1,200 residents. The populace is characterized by a strong sense of local identity, reflected in the maintenance of traditional festivals and the preservation of historic buildings. Public services include a primary school, a volunteer fire department, and a community centre that hosts social and cultural events.
