Laser energy, or laserenergi, is the energy carried by laser light as it exits a laser system. It is described by pulse energy (joules per pulse) for pulsed lasers or average power (watts) for continuous‑wave systems. The energy delivered to a target equals the integral of power over time and depends on pulse duration, repetition rate, and beam quality.

In a laser, energy is stored in the gain medium as population inversion and released as photons through stimulated emission in the resonator. Pulse energy depends on the invertible population, cavity losses, and extraction efficiency. Shorter pulses with the same energy have higher peak powers; average energy scales with repetition rate.

Laser families differ in energy delivery: solid‑state (for example Nd:YAG), fiber lasers, gas lasers (such as CO2), dye lasers, and diode lasers. Electrical‑to‑optical efficiency varies widely across technologies. Fluence, energy per unit area, determines interaction with materials and tissue.

Applications include material processing (cutting, welding, surface treatment), medical procedures, micromachining, LiDAR, and communications. Safety is essential; high‑energy lasers pose eye and skin hazards. Devices are classified by hazard level with corresponding controls.
