larínicos

The term "larínicos" refers to anything related to the larynx, also known as the voice box. The larynx is a cartilaginous structure located in the neck, at the top of the trachea (windpipe) and anterior to the esophagus. It plays a crucial role in respiration, producing sound (voice), and protecting the trachea against food aspiration.

The larynx is composed of several cartilages, including the thyroid cartilage (Adam's apple), cricoid cartilage, and arytenoid cartilages. Within the larynx are the vocal cords, also called vocal folds, which are folds of mucous membrane that produce sound when air passes through them and causes them to vibrate. The tension and position of these vocal cords can be adjusted to control pitch and volume.

Conditions affecting the larynx are often referred to as "laríngeos" problems. These can include laryngitis, an inflammation of the larynx usually caused by infection or overuse, leading to hoarseness or loss of voice. Other issues can involve nodules or polyps on the vocal cords, vocal cord paralysis, or more serious conditions like laryngeal cancer. The study and treatment of laryngeal disorders fall under the domain of laryngology, a subspecialty of otolaryngology (ear, nose, and throat medicine). The health and function of the larynx are essential for speech, communication, and efficient breathing.
