langusega

Langusega is a fictional language developed for the Languan archipelago in a contemporary science fiction/fantasy universe. It is a constructed language (conlang) built to reflect the culture and history of its speakers and to provide linguistic texture for related media.

Phonology and syntax: Langusega is predominantly agglutinative and uses a subject–verb–object word order in basic clauses. Its phonology comprises about 21 consonants and 5 vowels, with limited vowel length and a system of vowel harmony in suffixes. Stress is predictable, falling on the penultimate syllable in most words.

Morphology and grammar: The language marks grammatical relations largely through affixation, including tense, aspect, mood, and evidentiality. It employs postpositions rather than prepositions and uses a small set of intransitive and transitive classifiers in certain constructions.

Writing system: Langusega is normally written with a Latin-based alphabet augmented by diacritics to indicate vowel quality and length. A traditional manuscript system called Languan script is occasionally depicted in lore and art within the universe.

Geography and community: In-fiction, Langusega is spoken on the Languan Isles by several communities collectively known as the Languans. It functions as a symbol of cultural identity and is taught in local schools alongside other regional languages; oral tradition is strong in folklore and music.
