Landsvísu is a term used in Nordic folk tradition to denote a short lyric song devoted to the land or homeland. The word combines land- meaning “land” with vísu or vísa meaning “song” or “verse” (from Old Norse). In Icelandic and Faroese usage, landsvísur (plural landsvísur) are a recognized category within traditional lyric poetry; in other Nordic languages related terms exist with variant spellings.
