Laidunmaan is a fictional archipelago and autonomous region in the southern seas of the imagined continent of Eldoria. The federation comprises 14 islands and a number of islets, linked by ferries and navigable channels. The terrain is volcanic in parts, with coral reefs surrounding the coasts; tropical rainforest and mangroves are common on larger islands. The climate is tropical with a marked wet and dry season.

Historically, Laydari-speaking communities inhabited the islands from at least the early second millennium, developing seafaring, fishing, and farming traditions. European and regional trade contacts intensified from the 16th century, leading to administrative changes and eventual autonomy within the Eldorian system. In 1958 Laidunmaan gained limited self-government; a later constitutional framework established a bicameral legislature and an executive headed by a premier.

Demographics and language: The population is about 1.6 million, with Laidun as the dominant language; a second language, Eldori, is widely taught in schools. The population is concentrated in coastal towns and island capitals, with a rural hinterland on several larger islands.

Economy: The economy centers on sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, tourism, and small-scale agriculture. International shipping and marine research play secondary roles. The government pursues reef and mangrove protection, and ecotourism.

Culture: Seafaring traditions, craft weaving, and music featuring temple drums are prominent. Local cuisine emphasizes fish, coconut, and tropical fruits. Notable landmarks include the Blue Gate reef and the Hill of Winds.
