Lämpöputkijäähdytin, often translated as heat pipe cooler, is a passive thermal management device that utilizes the principle of heat pipes to efficiently transfer heat away from a component. A heat pipe is a sealed tube containing a working fluid, typically water or a volatile organic compound, and a wick structure. When one end of the heat pipe is heated, the working fluid evaporates, absorbing heat from the source. The vapor then travels to the cooler end of the pipe, where it condenses back into a liquid, releasing the absorbed heat. The wick structure then draws the condensed liquid back to the hot end through capillary action, completing the cycle.

In a heat pipe cooler, one or more heat pipes are embedded in a base that makes contact with the heat-generating component, such as a CPU or GPU. The other ends of the heat pipes are extended into a finned heatsink. This arrangement allows for rapid and effective transfer of heat from the component to the fins, where it can be dissipated into the surrounding environment. Often, a fan is attached to the heatsink to increase the airflow and enhance the rate of heat dissipation. This combination of heat pipes and a finned heatsink makes heat pipe coolers highly efficient for cooling high-power electronic devices. They are widely used in computers, servers, and other applications where effective thermal management is crucial for performance and longevity.
