Lämpömäärällä, often translated as heat quantity or simply heat, is a fundamental concept in thermodynamics representing the transfer of thermal energy between systems due to a temperature difference. It is a measure of the energy that flows from a hotter object to a colder object. Lämpömäärällä is a form of energy and is therefore measured in joules (J) in the International System of Units (SI). Other units such as calories (cal) are also sometimes used.

The amount of lämpömäärällä transferred depends on several factors. These include the mass of the substance, its specific heat capacity (the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of a unit mass by one degree), and the temperature change. The relationship is often expressed by the formula Q = mcΔT, where Q is the heat quantity, m is the mass, c is the specific heat capacity, and ΔT is the change in temperature.

Lämpömäärällä can be transferred through three primary mechanisms: conduction, convection, and radiation. Conduction is the transfer of heat through direct contact between particles. Convection involves the movement of fluids (liquids or gases) carrying heat with them. Radiation is the transfer of heat through electromagnetic waves, such as the heat from the sun. Understanding lämpömäärällä is crucial in many scientific and engineering applications, including designing heating and cooling systems, understanding phase transitions, and analyzing energy efficiency.
