küçültülmü

Küçültülmü is a Turkish surface form related to the verb küçültmek, meaning to shrink or reduce. It is not a standalone dictionary entry in standard Turkish, but rather a compositionally formed form that appears in linguistic descriptions as a combination of a verb root, a passive marker and a question particle. In normative Turkish orthography the corresponding full construction is usually written as küçültülmüş mü, with the question particle mü attached after the participle as a separate word.

Morphology and usage

The form derives from küçült- (to shrink) combined with the passive suffix -ül- to create a passive stem, followed by the past participle suffix -müş (as in küçültülmüş, meaning “has been shrunk”). The final element is the yes–no question particle mü/mı/mu/mü, which in standard writing appears as a separate word: küçültülmüş mü? When written without a space, as küçültülmü, it reflects a phonetic or analytical rendering rather than standard spelling and is generally used only in linguistic glosses or informal contexts.

Semantic and syntactic role

Küçültülmü conveys that the action of shrinking has occurred to the subject, with the sentence typically forming a question about the result or state. It can function adjectivally as part of a noun phrase in some explanations or as part of a predicate in a yes–no question.
