külföldön

Külföldön is a Hungarian adverb meaning "abroad" or "in foreign countries." It denotes location outside Hungary or the speaker's own country and is used with verbs of being or staying, such as él, dolgozik, utazik. For example: "Ő külföldön él" and "Külföldön dolgozik."

It is also used to describe experiences or contexts associated with foreign countries, as in "külföldön szerzett tapasztalatok" (experiences gained abroad). The word derives from külföld ("foreign land") plus the locative suffix -ön/-ön, yielding "külföldön" = "in a foreign land." The directional form "külföldre" means "to abroad" or "to a foreign country," used with verbs of motion like "kimegy külföldre" (he goes abroad).

In Hungarian, the term is common in travel writing, migration discussions, education and employment contexts, and media coverage of international events.
