Köszöntések are greetings used in the Hungarian language. They vary depending on the time of day and the formality of the situation. The most common daytime greeting is "Jó napot!" which translates to "Good day!". This is generally considered a polite and all-purpose greeting suitable for most situations.

As the day progresses, more specific greetings are used. "Jó reggelt!" means "Good morning!" and is appropriate until around noon. Following "Jó reggelt!" is "Jó napot!", which can be used throughout the afternoon. As evening approaches, "Jó estét!" translates to "Good evening!" and is used from late afternoon until nighttime.

For more informal settings, such as among friends or family, shorter and more casual greetings are common. "Szia!" is a very common informal greeting, equivalent to "Hi!" or "Hello!". When addressing more than one person informally, "Sziasztok!" is used.

In very casual or friendly encounters, simply saying "Heló!" is also acceptable. The choice of greeting often reflects the relationship between the speakers and the context of their interaction. It is customary to return a greeting when one is offered.
