könnycsatornarendszer
The könnycsatornarendszer, or lacrimal drainage system in English, is the anatomical pathway responsible for draining tears from the surface of the eye. This system begins with the puncta, small openings located on the inner margin of the upper and lower eyelids. When blinking, tears are swept towards these puncta. From the puncta, tears enter the canaliculi, which are tiny tubes that lead to the lacrimal sac. The lacrimal sac is a small reservoir situated in a groove on the side of the nose. From the lacrimal sac, tears descend through the nasolacrimal duct, a larger tube that empties into the nasal cavity. This drainage process is crucial for maintaining a clear visual field and preventing tear overflow onto the face. Disruptions to this system, such as blockages or inflammation, can lead to excessive tearing (epiphora), eye infections, or the formation of styes. The volume and rate of tear production are regulated by the lacrimal glands, which are located above each eyeball. The normal functioning of the könnycsatornarendszer ensures that excess tears are efficiently removed, contributing to ocular health and comfort.
