Kõrglahutus, often translated as high definition or HD, refers to a video resolution that is significantly sharper and more detailed than standard definition. It typically involves a greater number of pixels, which are the tiny dots that make up a digital image. The most common high-definition resolutions are 1280x720 pixels (often called 720p) and 1920x1080 pixels (often called 1080p or Full HD). The 'p' in these resolutions stands for progressive scan, meaning each frame is displayed sequentially, resulting in smoother motion compared to interlaced scanning (denoted by 'i') which displays odd and even lines separately.

The adoption of high definition technology has revolutionized television broadcasting, filmmaking, and digital media consumption. It allows for a more immersive viewing experience, capturing finer details in images and providing clearer, more lifelike visuals. This increased detail is particularly noticeable when viewing content on larger screens.
